Bruno R.C. GRANIER is full professor
and the chair person in paleontology and sedimentology at the University of
Brest (W Brittany, France). To date he has written or contributed to more than
60 publications in the field of sequence stratigraphy, carbonate sedimentology,
diagenesis, rock-typing, and micropaleontology (for the most part fossil
calcareous algae). He is also the editor of several geology-driven web sites,
including the journal Carnets de Géologie
and the portal Geoscience
e-Journals.
Bruno holds a BSc in Sedimentary Geology (1981) from
P. Sabatier University - Toulouse, a MSc in Geodynamics (1983), a PhD
in Stratigraphy (1987) as well as the Habilitation in Earth Sciences
(2003) from P. et M. Curie University - Paris.
Before joining academe in 2004, Bruno worked over a decade
and a half for the oil industry. In 1987, after having been granted the PhD, he
began his professional career with SCOP6, and in turn thereafter for Total
C.F.P., G.S.C., and the Société Nationale elf-Aquitaine (Production).
Finally,
in 1991, he joined Total as Senior Carbonate Sedimentologist at its Scientific
and Technical Research Centre in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse (France). There he
coordinated studies on Angola and Libya,
and was responsible for carbonate studies on France, Qatar,
and Yemen. In 1995 he was seconded by Total Fina Elf
to ADMA-OPCO in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), as
Petrography Expert; he was team leader for a major Integrated Reservoir
Characterization Study. In late 2001, Bruno was back in Paris with Total in the
reservoir division where he dealt with the carbonate reservoirs of the Congo,
Angola, etc., along with the bituminous sands of Alberta.
The prospect of more freedom for research led to his fulfillment of the
requirements for an habilitation and the announcement of his candidature for a
professorship [1
& 2].
Since September 2004, he is full professor at the Université de Bretagne
occidentale ("Western Brittany") in Brest (France). There, among other
duties (teaching, research, ...), he administrates a portal of Not-For-Profit
Associations, mostly those dealing with Stratigraphy and hosted on the main server of this French
University.
In parallel, since 2007, he was offered an appointement
(volunteer) as an Adjunct Research Associate with the Department of Ecology and
Evolutionary Biology at the University of Kansas in Lawrence (U.S.A.). There (since
July 2002) he administrates the web site of the International
"Fossil Algae" Association hosted on the main server of this American
University.
