More About Him
|
|
In 1983, having completed his geological studies in La Paz,
Bolivia, Miguel A. PEREZ-LEYTÓN joined the national
government's oil company (YPFB) as a
geologist-paleontologist. Because there was no reputable scientific research
center in Bolivia, near the end of the decade he moved to Belgium
where, at the University of Liège, he obtained the MSc, awarded for his broad
expertise in palynology (Precambrian through Tertiary). The degree in hand he
returned to Bolivia and resumed work as a palynologist
for YPFB; in 1992 he was promoted to head the
Paleontology-Palynology Service. In 1996 he obtained an MA in Business
Administration from Nur University in Santa Cruz.
The privatization of the YPFB in 1997
made him decide to become an independent consultant In this capacity he worked
as a palynologist both at the well-site and in his laboratory at Santa Cruz.
Most of his clients were foreign oil companies engaged in pertroleum exploration
and production in Bolivia. In furtherance of this
pursuit it was proposed that he undertake a doctoral thesis at the University of
Brest (in a cotutelle with the University of Liège) to be supervised by
specialists in three groups of palynomorphs: acritarchs, chitinozoa, spores. As
he considers himself to be an "individual in permanent evolution",
Miguel accepted this challenge, and from September 2003 has been an
"old" student in France.
