MD03-2495 / Audierne
Objectives:
- To determine the origin of the sediments at the place where the core was obtained.
- To show the differences between sedimentary rates at very close distances. Another
core was obtained at Quibron which is very close to the earlier core.
- To determine the origin of the river Loire.
The basic plan is to study the origin of sediments along with the path of flow
from the coast to the deep sea fan. The sediment is trapped in tidal bars,
canyons, paleovalleys, etc. At the end of the course they get deposited
in the levee and the lobes of the deep sea fan.
Audierne:
The team of Jean-Francois Bourillet tried to determine the
origin of the sediments. It is seen that they originate from
the river LaLoire but there is no evidence to prove this fact
and that remains the goal of the team. The morphology of the
shelf shows that there may be a connection between the sediments
in the lobes (where Audierne was obtained) and the sediments in
the river LaLoire. They have studied the sediments with respect
to carbonates and grain size analysis. Future work is expect to
be done by a Master student.
